UFC Champion Ronda Rousey Is On The Cover Of ESPN Body Issue (PICS + VID)
Rousey may be best known for breaking Meisha Tate’s arm and taking her title in March of 2012, but she’s about to garner a different kind of attention after posing nude for ESPN’s “Body Issue.”
Ronda Rousey, the UFC’s first ever women’s champion, is one of six athletes featured on ESPN’s body issue.
The 25-year old chose a good time to pose naked for the magazine because her stardom is about to bloom. For years and years, the UFC was loathe to introduce a women’s division. However, Dana White has finally changed his stance, and Rousey helped influence his decision. The former Olympic bronze medallist has gone from a relative unknown to a full blown superstar in a matter of 20 months.
Rousey is truly a promoter’s dream. Inside the cage, she’s an animal. Rousey has a perfect professional record of 6-0, and she’s won all six fights by armbar. Outside of the cage, Rousey has been outspoken and candid, and she has people paying attention. Rousey called out Michael Phelps for being an arrogant snob, and then she called out Kim Kardashian for being a miserable role model. Whether you agree with Rousey or not, it’s clear that her self promotion is working. Rousey will headline UFC 157 in February of 2013, and it will mark the first time in UFC history that a female headlines the card.
She’s got the skills, she’s got the personality, and she’s certainly got the looks.
Back in 2008-09, the sport of MMA made a huge star out of Gina Carano. However, after she lost to Cyborg Santos in August of 2009, she abruptly retired. Carano’s exit left women’s MMA without a figurehead, but Rousey has willingly stepped in to assume the limelight.
I have to say this is much more interesting than Ryan Kesler naked.
