Rory MacDonald Dominates B.J Penn At UFC on FOX 5 (HIGHLIGHTS)
Rory MacDonald said he was going to destroy B.J Penn, and that’s exactly what he did. MacDonald used a barrage of strikes to frustrate and dominate Penn, and UFC President Dana White thinks it’s time for B.J to retire.
“B.J. will probably retire,” White said. “I wouldn’t mind seeing that. Rory looked better than he’s ever looked. You don’t see body punches like that. B.J. is a warrior who doesn’t give up. I’ve got so much respect for him. I’d like to see him retire. He’s got plenty of money, he’s got babies, (and) he has nothing to prove to anyone.”
If Penn decides to keep fighting, he better drop back down to lightweight. Penn hasn’t earned a meaningful win in the 170 pound division since beating Matt Hughes back in 2004. He’s too small, and he’s a natural lightweight.
I honestly have no idea why “The Prodigy” has been fighting in the welterweight division the last few years. He had a dominant run in the lightweight division before losing his title to Frankie Edgar, and then he abandoned the division all together. I thought it was a dumb decision at the time, and when you consider the beating he’s taken in his last two fights, it’s pretty clear Penn needs to drop in weight or retire.
