Just when you thought that we might escape one night of NHL playoff action without controversy, enter Raffi Torres.  His late head shot on Marian Hossa, in the Coyotes 3-2 overtime win against the Blackhawks, is taking centre stage in the NHL news wire this morning.  Last night was a night where we saw the Nashville Predators take a strangle hold on their series against the Detroit Red Wings, the Florida Panthers made a ridiculous comeback against the New Jersey Devils and Ray Whitney lead the Coyotes back to overcome a late third period deficit.  But instead, let’s just keep talking about how Shanahan can’t make any right calls and how players continue to spit in the face off the NHL rule book.

Needless to say, several Blackhawks were none too happy with the hit on Hossa and they’ve voiced their displeasure.  I wonder if the NHL has the balls to fine Joel Quenneville for his ‘criticism of officials’.  Also, check out the press release from the Blcakhawks concerning the health of Hossa:

Marian Hossa suffered an upper body blow in the first period of tonight’s game. After initial evaluation on the ice he was taken by ambulance to the hospital for further testing, which yielded encouraging results. He has been released from the hospital, and we are monitoring him closely at home. We anticipate a full recovery in a timetable yet to be determined.
