Anthony Pettis KO’s Joe Lauzon with head kick at UFC 144 (Video)
Anthony “Showtime” Pettis knocked out Joe Lauzon with a head kick at UFC 144 in Japan. Both Lauzon and Pettis were considered one or two fights away from title contention coming into their fight tonight, and Pettis may have punched his ticket into number one contender status.
When you look around the UFC Lightweight division, it’s clear that the division is extremely deep but short on immediate title contenders. Jim Miller and Clay Guida were both close, but they both lost to Ben Henderson. Melvin Guillard was there but he lost to Lauzon, Cowboy Cerrone lost to Nate Diaz, and Diaz is still a few fights from contending.
Everyone knows that UFC President Dana White likes fighters that finish opponents, and this head kick from Pettis is flat out devastating.
I honestly feel bad for Lauzon because he seems like a great guy and he was on a nice roll. After he upset Melvin Guillard in his last fight, a video was released of his buddies freaking out after he won. I hope they weren’t watching this…
